Webb Schools students brought home top honors at the recent 75th annual Los Angeles County Science and Engineering Fair at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles.

Zichen Wei, a junior, won the high school earth and space science category and the high school division’s top honor, the sweepstakes award, with his project, “Auto-Detection Survey for Single-Transit Exoplanets in Known Systems.” Zichen will attend the 2025 Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair in Columbus, Ohio May 10-16.

Senior Maya Chin and junior Yuexi Lin took first place in the high school division’s ecology category with their project, “The Development of a C. Elegans Screening Model for Groundwater Contaminants.”

The event included more than 1,000 students grades six through 12 from more than 140 schools in LA County. In addition to competing for awards and scholarships, first and second place winners from each category were invited to participate in the April 12-13 California State Science and Engineering Fair in Thousand Oaks.
