The Claremont High School doubles team of Drew Spinosa and Megan Huang emerged as the new Sierra League doubles champions during the Sierra League Girls Tennis Finals on Tuesday. The CHS duo defeated St. Lucy’s tandem of Danielle Cooney and Alekya Tummala in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4.

After defeating South Hills’ Erin Acera in the Sierra League singles semifinal (4-6, 6-3, 6-3) in a match that last more than 3 hours, Claremont’s Cindy Liu was noticeably tired in the singles final against South Hills ace Andrea Madrigal. Liu settled for a 2nd place finish after losing to Madrigal in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2.

Both the double team of Spinosa-Huang and Liu both qualified for the CIF Southern Section individual playoffs that begin later this month. CHS will compete in the CIF Southern Section team playoffs starting next week.
