Led once again by freshman Maddie Coles, the Claremont High School girls cross country team claimed another Palomares League title last Saturday at Whittier Narrows Park.

Claremont’s 25 points came in at less than half of second place Ayala’s 58, followed by Colony, 102, Alta Loma, 108, Bonita, 118, and Glendora, 125.

Coles paced the CHS runners with her second-place finish at 17:11 over the three-mile course, just seven seconds behind winner Mikaela Ramirez of Ayala. Behind Coles for Claremont were Sydney Hwang, coming in fourth at 17:20, Azalea Segura-Mora fifth at 17:34, Kalinda Reynolds sixth at 17:35 and Julia Marriott eighth 17:54.

The boys team also had a easy time on Saturday, winning league with a team score of 24 points.

Second place went to Ayala with 55 points followed by Bonita, 96, Colony, 105, Alta Loma,124 and Glendora,127.

As was the case with the girls race, Claremont’s top place for the boys was second, with Ryan Cowgill crossing the line at 14:55, just seven seconds behind winner Andrew Martinez of Ayala. Next for CHS were Aaron Reyes, fourth at 14:56, Adam Trafecanty, fifth at 14:57, Jacob Moran sixth at 14:58, and Jack Keough-Lansford seventh at 15:03.

The Pack resumes competition on Saturday at the CIF Prelims in Riverside.

Girls tennis

Girls varsity tennis came up just short in their 8-10 loss to La Cañada High School in Monday’s division two CIF quarterfinal match.

The Pack finishes the season with a 13-4 overall record and a 10-0 Palomares League record. Sophomores Goldie La, Jahday Drewery and Salma Mohideen will represent the Palomares League in the CIF individual singles and doubles tournaments on November 19 at the Claremont Club.

Boys water polo

Claremont High School’s come from behind season ended Saturday morning with a 7-4 loss to top ranked Capistrano Valley in Mission Viejo.

Claremont advanced to the quarterfinal match by defeating a very talented Martin Luther King High School, 10-8, last Thursday at home.

Claremont Wolfpack ends the season at 16-13-1 overall and 8-2 in Palomares League.
