Reyna Kawamura, a rising senior at Claremont High School and a long-time Girl Scout with Troop 6884, is aiming to address the mental and emotional health of those affected by the recent Los Angeles County wildfires with her Gold Award project.

An assortment of free and open to the public mental health programs are being offered from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursdays at Claremont Helen Renwick Library, 208 N. Harvard Ave., thanks to a partnership with LA County Library and the LA County Department of Mental Health.

Featuring the works of over 40 Pomona Valley artists, “Soul,” curated by Athena Hahn, shows August 9 through December 21 at the Sam and Alfreda Maloof Foundation for Arts and Crafts at 5131 Carnelian St., Rancho Cucamonga.

“Visions in Nature,” a joint exhibit by Ruthellyn Whittington and Sherie Garner, is on view at The Gallery at Hillcrest, 2705 Mountain View Dr., La Verne, through September 25. 

The Friends of the Claremont Library’s half price book sale runs throughout August at the Claremont Helen Renwick Library, 208 N. Harvard Ave., from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday-Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.

In observance of a 15-year partnership between Claremont nonprofit Shoes That Fit and Nordstrom, the organizations are looking to raise $1.7 million to provide new shoes for 50,000 kids.

In observance of its 100-year anniversary, deans and directors from Claremont Graduate University will answer questions at its free drinks with the deans’ event from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, August 4 at the Drucker Institute, 1021 N. Dartmouth Ave., Claremont.

The Pomona Valley Spiritual Leaders for Justice, representing a diverse collection of churches and religious communities, is hosting an “Interfaith Vigil for the Disappeared and Fearful, for all of those who have been kidnapped by ICE or are afraid of being kidnapped,” according to a press release.

The Claremont Little League All-Star 10-year-olds lost two close games over the weekend at the 2025 Southern California State Little League tournament, sending them home for the summer. The 10s — the last Claremont Little League All-Star team in postseason play — lost 3-2 to Section 8 and District 71 champions Vineyard Little League Saturday at Homer Briggs Park in Ontario. The team was facing elimination Sunday against Section 10 and District 62 champions Huntington West, but lost another close one, 2-1, and ending their postseason.
