Registration is still open for the SLICE of Summer enrichment program. Courses offered range from academics to sports to activities like sculpture, cooking, coding, drumming, music video production and more.

There are three sessions—June 22 through July 3, July 6 through July 17 and July 20 through July 31—with a few online/hybrid courses also available.  All classes are $160 unless otherwise noted.

Enrichment classes

In Legos: Master Builders Across the Curriculum, first through eighth grade students use Legos to explore math, writing, critical thinking and imaginative play.

In Storytelling through Claymation, students in fourth through eighth grade develop storytelling skills while using digital photography to create stop-motion animation shorts employing iMovie software as well as clay and art materials.

In Hip-Hop Dance Party, students learn the history of hip-hop and the connection between rap and poetry, while writing their own rap song. By the end of the class, they will produce a dance to share with other SLICE participants.

In Law School for Kids, students in fifth through eighth grade get their feet wet with the history and structure of the legal system and begin briefing their own cases and conducting mock trials. The class is taught by Oakmont teacher and former lawyer Scott Boen.

In CSI: Claremont, students learn the science behind crime scene investigation, exploring (fake) blood splatter, fingerprints and DNA. Students will write a mystery story to be shared with the class.

Volleyball and basketball for students in fourth through eighth grades is offered as well as Li’l Buzzer Beaters: Basketball & Other Games for first through third graders. 

Credit classes

Some classes provide students with course credit. These include physical education, which gives students in the ninth through twelfth grades the chance to complete a semester of PE in four weeks and meets CHS graduation requirements.

Other credit classes include Spanish 1 ($660), driver’s education ($185), speech and debate ($310), music appreciation ($410), pre-calculus ($660), tech education ($105) and health and fitness ($105).

Prep classes

SLICE also offers bridge classes that, while they don’t provide school credit, prep students for upcoming classes or situations that may prove challenging.

The Calculus AB Bridge Class helps high school students prepare for the exam students must pass in order to enroll in AP Calculus BC in the fall. Tuition is $660.

Welcome to El Roble is designed to ease the tension of elementary students transitioning to intermediate school. Strategies for Middle School Success focuses on skills enabling students to thrive academically and socially in junior high.
