The Claremont Unified School District will not be entering Program Improvement (PI).

Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services Bonnie Bell confirmed the district’s status during her K-8 Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) report at Thursday’s school board meeting. A future report on the 9th through 12th grade results is scheduled for the October 6th meeting.

Dr. Bell said the district would have entered PI status if it had missed its targets in all 3 grade spans (2-5, 6-8, 10). CUSD met its requirements in language arts in the 10th grade category and also reached its targets in mathematics for the 2nd to 5th grade and 10th grade spans.

“The good news is that the district is no longer on the watch list because of the grade spans that were met in math,” Dr. Bell explained. “We are not a Program Improvement district this year.”

Nearly all of the CUSD schools had more than 800 points for its Academic Performance Index (API) score. Oakmont Outdoor School was the only school under 800 with a score of 773. All of the district’s schools made improvements from last year’s scores with Condit (925) and Chaparral Elementary Schools remaining in the 900 range and Sumner Elementary School avoiding PI by meeting Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) requirements in both language arts and math in all 4 of its subgroups.
