Thirty high school seniors — including Ashlund Stanger and Lincoln Roston of Claremont High — were honored recently as community builders at a ceremony by Pomona Valley Habitat for Humanity.

State Senator Susan Rubio and San Bernardino County Supervisor Curt Hagman were keynote speakers and presented medals and certificates to the students.

All public, private and charter high schools in Pomona Valley Habitat’s 16 city service area were invited to participate and nominate their school’s honoree representative.

“Volunteering is a priceless gift you can give to your community,” said Pomona Valley Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Christine Charland. “Volunteering acknowledges that we need each other, that everyone has a struggle or story; honoring these young people and encouraging others to give back is how we build community.”
