The Claremont Police Department issued the following tips to stay safe this holiday season:

• If consuming alcohol away from home, assign a designated driver or arrange for a ride.
• When out, be alert of surroundings. Park in well-lit areas, refrain from looking at your phone in parking lots, beware of strangers, and shop with a friend before it gets dark.
• Avoid carrying large amounts of cash and do not leave purses or wallets unattended.
• Packages and presents should be hidden in your home or locked in a vehicle’s trunk and covered.
• Try not to let others know you’re away from home. Also, spare keys should not be hidden in easily found places such as under doormats, in flowerpots, the mailboxes, under rocks, or above door ledges.
