Auditions opening up for CYMO’s new season

Musicians ages eight to 20 years old who attend public or private California schools are invited to audition for one of three Claremont Young Musicians’ orchestras for the upcoming 2022-23 season, its 34th.

String, woodwind, brass, or percussion musicians can audition for CYMO, the intermezzo orchestra and/or the overture string orchestra, whose members are selected annually.

Auditions begin Saturday, August 27 and conclude Saturday, September 24. Registration opens Sunday, August 7. To view the audition schedule or to schedule one, visit cymo.org/audition.html. Auditions can also be scheduled by emailing rjscymo@aol.com or calling (909) 624-3614. Location details will be provided upon request.

Audition requirements can be found online at https://www.cymo.org/audition.html, as can audition excerpts for the various orchestra instruments. Auditions take approximately 10 minutes.

Be sure to include your name, contact number, preferred instrument, the number of excerpts you will play and a time preference for your audition. CMYO noted that due to the number of applicants, musicians should list blocks of time they are available on their audition day instead of specific times when applying.

Audition times, if available, may be requested anytime from August 7 until the day before your audition.

CYMO presents major symphonic works and soloists in concert each year at the Bridges Hall of Music on the Pomona College campus and at other local venues. The orchestra also provides special concerts for children, community programs, and chamber music performances throughout the year.
