Benton Museum partners with Wardell Milan in new exhibit

The Benton Museum of Art at Pomona College recently announced a partnership with artist Wardell Milan and will display some of his most recent work starting October 8. The special exhibit will conclude April 2, 2023.

Over the academic year, Milan’s work will be shown in two ways: five billboards running through a section of the Pomona College campus, and four large works in the museum lobby.

The billboards “lead the viewer on a journey through the college” and are inspired by the work of French philosopher Jean-Luc Nancy, according to the exhibition’s description. The four large works, viewable near the Benton’s entrance lobby, “disassemble and reassemble the human form.”

The New York-based artist is said to be “deeply engaged in materiality, process, and story-telling,” the exhibit’s description read. Through various mediums, Milan breaks down and reassembles “narratives, assumptions, and selfhood” in his works.

The Benton is located at 120 W. Bonita Ave., Claremont, is free and open to the public Wednesday through Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. The museum is open until 10 p.m. Thursdays for Art After Hours.
