CHS sports kick off fall season

Though Claremont High School’s academic year kicked off Wednesday, preseason fall sports — including boys’ football, water polo and cross-country and girls’ tennis, volleyball, cross-country and golf — have been in action for weeks. Below are results from games held the weeks of August 15, 22 and 29. Results of games played after press time will be posted at claremont-courier.com.

Girls volleyball

On August 18, the team hosted Covina High School and took home a 3-0 victory. On August 19 it suffered a 3-0 defeat at Arcadia. The Wolfpack was again dealt a 3-0 loss on August 25 at the hands of South Pasadena in Pasadena, but bounced back against Don Lugo on August 30 with a 3-0 win at home. The preseason continues Tuesday, September 6 with a 4:30 p.m. home game against St. Lucy’s. On Thursday, September 8 the team travels to Glendora for a 4:30 p.m. match. Their record currently sits at 2-2. League play has yet to begin.

Boys water polo

On Tuesday, August 30, the team won its first match of the year, 13-12, at home against Brea Olinda. The boys’ next game is at 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 6 at Troy.

Girls tennis

The girls host Temescal Canyon at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, September 6. They travel to Los Osos for a 3:15 p.m. match Thursday, September 8.

Girls golf

The team hosted Rancho Cucamonga at Marshal Canyon Golf Course in La Verne on Tuesday, August 30 and came away with a 225-275 victory. The Wolfpack travels to El Prado Golf Course in Chino next Tuesday, September 6, to face Chino Hills at 2:30 p.m.

Boys and girls cross-country

The first race of the year for the girls and boys cross-county teams is at 8 a.m. Saturday, September 3 at the Pomona Fairplex, 1101 W. McKinley Ave., when it will host the Cool Breeze Invitational. The Wolfpack then hosts a Palomares League preview against Ayala at 8 a.m. Saturday, September 10.

Boys football

The team’s home opener against Norte Vista was cancelled due to a COVID-19 outbreak at NVHS. The Wolfpack will host Tustin at 7 p.m. Friday, September 2. Next Friday the team travels to Colony in Riverside for a 7 p.m. game.
