Chu to be honored by local Jewish organizations

On Sunday, August 6, Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center and Jewish Federation of the Greater San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys will honor Representative Judy Chu of California’s 28th Congressional District for introducing House Resolution 2668 in April, the U.S. Rescue and Aid Individuals of World War II Congressional Gold Medal Act of 2023.

If passed, the bill will award a collective Congressional Gold Medal to Americans who aided in rescuing Jews and other refugees during World War II and the Holocaust. The Americans considered for the honor include former First Lady of the United States Eleanor Roosevelt; Henry Morgenthau Jr., former U.S. Secretary of the Treasury; Harold Ickes, former U.S. Secretary of the Interior; and Maryland Congressman Thomas D’Alesandro Jr., the father of Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi.

The 7 p.m. event at the Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center, 1434 N. Altadena Dr., will include stories about people who risked their lives to save others. To learn more, call the Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center at (626) 798-1161, the Jewish Federation at (626) 445-0810 or email federation@jewishsgpv.org.
