City selects DEI consultant

The City of Claremont has selected a consulting firm to assist in its effort to develop anti-racist and anti-discrimination policies.

During its Tuesday night meeting the Claremont City Council authorized its city manager to hire CPS HR Consulting, at a cost of $42,150, to conduct a diversity, equity and inclusion evaluation of city policies and programs.

“The DEI Evaluation will specifically look at policies, programs, and practices that directly or indirectly impact City staff and residents in regard to their race, ethnicity, gender, national origin, color, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, or other socio-culturally significant factors,” according to a news release from the city.

The city council set a new priority earlier this year to establish or strengthen its DEI policies. The consultant will conduct community outreach in the coming months and anticipates publishing a final report in June 2023, including its findings and recommendations.

“Established in 1985 as a self-supporting public agency, CPS HR Consulting provides a full range of integrated solutions to government agencies, public safety, and nonprofit organizations,” according to the city. “They have assembled a team of expert consultants who have worked successfully with several other local government agencies to establish and achieve their DEI goals.”
