The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s water polo team brought home the USA Water Polo Division III national title December 3 with a 6-5 victory over the University of Redlands at Anne Greve Lund Natatorium in Rock Island, Illinois.

It’s the Stags’ first national title in program history, capping a 23-7 season, 11-1 in SCIAC. The team was runner-up to Whittier College in 2019, and again in 2021, when it lost to rival Pomona-Pitzer in overtime.

CMS fell at Redlands, 11-10, last month, sharing the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season title with the Bulldogs. Later, they were crowned SCIAC Postseason Tournament champs after beating Redlands, 9-4. Senior goalkeeper Aidan Nettekoven won the 2023 SCIAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player award.
