The Claremont Colleges Foxes women’s rugby team won the Collegiate Rugby Championship 7s in Bowie, Maryland on Sunday, April 28.

Seeded 10th out of 16 teams, the Foxes defeated Florida State, number one seed Northern Iowa, Ohio State, and Oregon to win the title.

After winning back-to-back Division 2 titles the last two seasons in 15s, the Foxes opted this year to move up to Division 1, which includes larger schools such as the University of Arizona, Arizona State, and UCLA. The team went 5-2 in their first regular Division 1 season, qualifying for the national playoffs, where they lost in the quarter finals.

Rugby 7s is the short and fast version of the game, with seven players as opposed to 15 on the field, that is played in the Olympics.

Congratulations, Foxes!
