Alexander Vance, an eighth grader at El Roble Intermediate School and life scout in Boy Scout Troop 407, held “The Battle of the Genres” concert on March 16 at Claremont Community School of Music’s William J. Huff recital hall in order to update the storage shelves within CCSM’s keyboard lab and to renew the school’s aging pianos. The concert, also Alexander’s Eagle Scout Project, raised more than $2,100 through ticket sales and donations.

“His concert underscores his commitment to community service and highlights his ability to creatively and effectively address a community need,” read the April 13 edition of Claremont Unified School District’s bi-weekly newsletter, CUSD celebrates. The excerpt also noted the project was a “testament to the positive impact young individuals can have on their communities” and reflects CUSD’s core values of excellence, innovation, and integrity.
