Claremont High School 

Baseball (9-16)
Claremont capped the season with a 6-1 loss at Alta Loma April 27. The boys finished last place in the Palomares League with a record of 1-9.

 

Softball (6-13)
The Pack closed the season with a 10-8 home win over Alta Loma April 27 and finished fifth in the Palomares League at 4-12.

 

Boys golf (9-4)
The Wolfpack traveled to Alta Loma April 27 and won, 206-228, securing the team’s second consecutive Palomares League title and finishing the regular season with an 8-2 league record. Claremont sophomore Will Middleton took home league MVP honors, with junior Connor Gale the runner-up.

Individual league finals were held Tuesday at Western Hills Country Club. Will and Connor will represent the Palomares League at the CIF-Southern Section Individual Southern Regional tournament at Los Serranos Golf Course on Tuesday, May 9. Claremont will then participate in the Division III CIF-Southern Section team tournament Monday, May 15 at Sterling Hills Golf Course.

 

Boys volleyball (25-8)
Upland handed the Wolfpack its second league loss on April 20, making Claremont Baseline League runners-up at 10-2.

The number one seeded Pack beat Lancaster, 3-2, at home in the first round of the CIF-Southern Section Division IV playoffs on April 27. Claremont shutout hosts Xavier Prep, 3-0, in the second round on April 29. The team then hosted El Dorado Wednesday, losing 3-1 in the quarterfinals. Updated results are at cifss.org.
Boys tennis (13-1)
Claremont won its eighth consecutive Palomares League crown by dispatching Alta Loma, 15-3, on April 20. The Pack was a perfect 10-0 in league play. The team begins CIF-Southern Section Open Division tournament play at Corona del Mar at 3 p.m. Friday. Brackets will be updated at cifss.org.

Results from the Ojai Tournament: in the boys 18 and under doubles tourney on April 28 junior Caleb Settles and sophomore Mateen Ghafarshad made it to the quarterfinals before losing 3-2 to University High’s SangHyuk Im and Anirudh Gupta. In the singles bracket, junior D.J. Brownlee fell to Corona del Mar’s Niels Hoffmann in the round of 32, 2-0, on April 27. The junior eased past Ethan Lee of Los Osos, 2-0, in the first round earlier that morning. Full results are at playtennis.usta.com.

 

Boys (6-2) and girls (4-4) swim and dive
Results from the April 27 Palomares League finals at Mount San Antonio College: the boys placed second, the girls third. Senior Roman Savage both won the league MVP award and placed first in the 100-yard butterfly event, breaking the boys Claremont High School and league record at 49.49. Freshman girls swimmer Olivia Savage came second in the 100 breaststroke and set a new CHS event record at 1:08.92. The boy’s 200 freestyle relay team of Davin Castillo, Roman Robles, Nicholas Sanchez, and William Roby-Unkovich came third but still beat Claremont’s previous event record at 1:32.62. CIF-Southern Section prelims took place at Riverside Community College Wednesday and will continue Saturday. Full results are at faculty.polytechnic.org/cifss.

 

Boys and girls track and field
Results from the April 28 Palomares League at Ayala: the girls captured second place with 103.75 points while the boys placed fourth with 39.5 points. Detailed event results are at athletic.net.

The teams compete at the CIF-Southern Section Division I prelims at 8 a.m. Saturday at Trabuco Hills.

 

 

The Webb Schools

Baseball (7-7-1)
Webb nabbed a crucial 8-2 win at Tarbut V’Torah April 27 which allowed the Gauls to finish fifth in the San Joaquin League at 7-6-1, qualifying the team for the CIF-Southern Section Division VII wildcard game at South El Monte Tuesday. But Webb lost, 4-1, capping its season. Division VII brackets are updated at cifss.org/brackets.

 

Boys golf (10-3)
Webb lost twice last week, 215-230 on April 26 at Western Christian, and 189-210 the following day at Avalon. The Gauls hold a 6-2 league record, tied for first in the San Joaquin League.

League individual finals were held Wednesday at Skylinks Golf Course where junior Matt Maschler and freshmen Jayden Kuo and Ben Madanski represented Webb. Jaden qualified as one of six players to represent the San Joaquin League at the CIF-Southern Section Individual Northern Regional tournament Wednesday, May 10 at Los Robles Greens.

Webb will participate in the Division III CIF-Southern Section team tournament Monday, May 15 at Sterling Hills Golf Course.

 

Boys tennis (12-1)
Webb were crowned San Joaquin League champions after shutting out Tarbut V’Torah, 18-0, April 24, finishing perfect at 6-0.

The Gauls perfect season ended Wednesday when Fullerton dealt the team an 11-7 home loss in the CIF-Southern Section Division IV tournament. Updated brackets are at cifss.org.

Coed badminton (5-8)
Webb capped Hacienda League play April 28 with a commanding 14-7 home win over Chino Hills. The Gauls finished the regular season 2-8, fifth in the Hacienda League. The team hosted Citrus Valley after press time Thursday to begin CIF-Southern Section Division I tournament play. Brackets are at cifss.org.
