Journalists to reflect on January 6 insurrection at CMC forum

On Tuesday, September 13, Claremont McKenna College will host three journalists and CMC alumni who covered the January 6, 2021 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. The free, open to the public event is part of CMC’s Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum speaker series.

CMC will welcome senior national political reporter for NBC News Sahil Kapur (class of 2009), New York Times’ White House correspondent and two-time Pulitzer Prize winning reporter Michael Shear (class of 1990), and former Washington Post investigative reporter Elise Viebeck (class of 2009), who will lead the discussion.

The journalists will talk about the events from their point of view, how media outlets covered the events in real-time, and the challenges as well as the opportunities journalists faced. The panel will be held in the Athenaeum, 385 E. Eighth Street, Claremont. Admission is free for the 6:45 p.m. event. To learn more, call (909) 607-8244.
