for residents, group

top honors at this year’s Independence
Day Celebration. Ms. Baldonado and

as Honored Citizen and Honored
Group, respectively, with Mr. Albert
serving as Grand Marshall.
Each year the Claremont Independence
Day Committee selects honored recipients
based on their service to the
community.
Sustainable Claremont, a local nonprofit
established in 2008, has worked
closely with the city on projects that include
monthly sustainability dialogues,
monthly “demystifying sustainability”
articles as published in the COURIER,
the Claremont Home Energy Retrofit
Program (CHERP), annual early day
events and more.
Honored Citizen Ms. Baldonado, a
former Claremont city councilmember
and mayor, continues to support the

serving on the board for the
League of Women Voters, Claremont
Heritage, Claremont Senior Services and
Chamber of Commerce. She is the chair
of the Claremont Museum of Art.
Grand Marshall Mr. Albert is not only
known for being the “head guy” at The
Claremont Club, but for his giving spirit.
He has donated countless items and services
to the Claremont Unified School
District, including weight and cardio
equipment, 200 pairs of shoes and 5000
Angels tickets. He works closely with
those affected by spinal cord injuries
through partnerships with Casa Colina
and the Be Perfect Foundation.

Jane Goodfellow elected as chairman of the board at PVHMC
Jane Goodfellow, a longtime Claremont
resident and a 30-year Pomona
Valley Hospital Medical Center volunteer,
was elected as the 2012-13 board
chairman at the hospital’s April board of
director’s meeting. Ms. Goodfellow is
the first woman in PVHMC’s 109-year
history to serve as chairman of the board
of the local, nonprofit, acute care hospital.
“I’m very honored to be elected as
chairman of the Pomona Valley Hospital
Medical Center’s Board of Directors,”
said Ms. Goodfellow. “It will be a busy
year but I look forward to the challenge.
As the first female board chairman, I especially
want to recognize the many capable
female—and male—volunteers at
Pomona Valley Hospital in every capacity.
I feel the hospital is a better place because
of them.”
Ms. Goodfellow attended Catholic elementary
and junior high school in the
Bay area. Her high school years were
spent at Santa Catalina School, a girl’s
preparatory boarding school in Monterey.
Following high school, Ms. Goodfellow
completed 2 years at Dominican
University in San Rafael.
In 1958 Ms. Goodfellow married Jack
Goodfellow and the couple moved to
Claremont in 1962, where they raised
their 3 children, Mark, Paul and Joan.
Ms. Goodfellow was previously active
with Children’s Home Society (now
Children’s Fund), the largest private
adoption agency in Los Angeles, where
she served as a past board member and
past president of the Claremont Auxiliary.
She has been a member of the
Foothill Philharmonic Committee, in
support of the Los Angeles Philharmonic,
for many years. Shewas also active
in her children’s activities including
serving as a den mother for Boy Scouts
and with school Parent Faculty Associations.
Ms. Goodfellow began volunteering at
Pomona Valley Hospital in the Post
Anesthesia Care Unit in 1982. She has
continued to volunteer in this capacity
for the past 30 years.
Elected to the PVHMC Foundation
Board in 1995 and serving until 2001,
Ms. Goodfellow was re-elected to the
hospital foundation’s board in 2002,
serving in that position until last year. In
2007, she was elected to PVHMC’s
board of directors, acting as one of 2 vice
presidents from 2009 until this month.
After 50 years of marriage, Ms. Goodfellow’s
husband, Jack, passed away in
2008. In 2011, Ms. Goodfellow married
her current husband, Bob Weatherton,
also of Claremont. Her family now also
includes Mr. Weatherton’s 2 children and
2 grandchildren. In addition to her many
activities, Ms. Goodfellow is an active
grandmother to 7 grandchildren ranging
in age from 13 to 23 years.
