Street closures Sunday for Heart of the Foothills event

The 626 Golden Streets Heart of the Foothills open street event will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. throughout the cities of Claremont, Pomona, La Verne, and San Dimas this Sunday, April 23.

The event, organized by ActiveSGV, a San Gabriel Valley-based nonprofit, will open stretches of road for people to walk, jog, skate, bike and more across connecting cities. No vehicle traffic will be able to pass during the event as closures will be in effect from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. across all four cities — mainly on Bonita Avenue.

In Claremont, First Street (from Indian Hill Boulevard to College Avenue) and Arrow Highway (from Towne to College avenues) will be partially closed to vehicle traffic beginning at 5 a.m. Parking will also not be permitted along First Street in the Village.

Each city will have a designated hub with vendors, food, and entertainment. The Claremont Village will act as the city’s hub and include the weekly farmers and artisans market, Sustainable Claremont’s Earth Day celebration, activities for kids at the Claremont Lewis Museum of Art, live entertainment, a bike rodeo, and more.

Residents who live on the north side of Arrow Highway between Towne and Cambridge avenues will be offered one-way, westbound access on Arrow Highway to enter and exit their homes. Courier Place residents will need to enter and exit the apartment complex through their south Spring Street driveway.
