**UPDATED 9 p.m.: According to Claremont police, shortly before 10 a.m., on December 27, a vehicle traveling eastbound on Base Line Road struck a bicyclist, Ali Mirage, 76, who was also traveling east on Base Line. Claremont police officers arrived, along with LA County Fire Department and the bicyclist, a La Verne resident, was pronounced dead. The driver of the vehicle, a 54-year-old femaile, remained on scene and was not cited or arrested, according to Claremont police. Base Line Road was closed from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic from Bonnie Brae Avenue, east to Mills Avenue while police investigated.
