House of Ruth is a safe haven for those who have been victimized by domestic violence and affords victims a sanctuary where they can build a new life free from abuse and fear. The women learn that living in an abusive home does not allow for love, creativity or growth because the priority is keeping yourself and your children safe from harm.

To support the efforts of House of Ruth, local musicians are performing a benefit concert titled “Songs from the Heart” on Saturday, June 7 at 7:30 p.m. at University of La Verne, Morgan Auditorium, 1950 Third S., La Verne.

Songs from the Heart will offer the talents of Julian Johnson, Ken So?derlund, Hai Muradian,  Michael Ryan, Martie Echito, Danny Oberbeck, Dylan Oberbeck and Leslie Muradian. 

Proceeds from the concert will help House of Ruth continue to provide services so that the one in four women who are assaulted by an intimate partner in their home do not have to look any further for help and assistance. 

The first step in gaining freedom from abuse is getting to safety by calling House of Ruth’s 24-hour hotline. The staff can protection, comfort, understanding and advocacy for women, as well as additional services like transitional living, children’s programs, counseling, community services, prevention and outreach.

Nearly 26,000 people were served last year by the programs and services offered by House of Ruth, which inspired musician Michael Ryan to help by planning the benefit concert.

“I felt a strong desire to use my music to bring attention to House of Ruth,” Mr. Ryan said. “It seemed so right to call this event, Songs from the Heart, because it really reflects their mission.”

A champagne reception with the musicians will be held after the concert in the Abraham Campus Center at the University of La Verne.
