Real Connections, the Claremont-based, village-style approach to aging in place, is celebrating its second anniversary. To mark the day, a picnic is scheduled on Thursday, July 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Larkin Park in Claremont on the corner of Mountain and Harrison Avenues.

The summer celebration will include food, music and fun for the whole family, as well as the greater community. There is no fee to attend.

Real Connections believes “it takes a village” to remain living at home into old age and, for that reason,  the organization has committed to connecting community members to lend a helping hand. It’s a safe way for people age 50 and over to access concierge services, trusted resources for transportation, social events and trips, help with day-to-day activities, pre-screened home maintenance providers, case management and assistance with hospital-to-home transition. 

A member-based program, Real Connections relies on volunteers to assist with a wide variety of tasks. Volunteer opportunities range from driving someone to a doctor’s appointment to walking the dog, changing smoke alarm batteries or running a quick errand. Connecting with those in your local community, and making friends along the way, is simply a bonus of the program.
