Claremont to host SO delegations from Bolivia, Latvia and more

The city of Claremont will host Special Olympics delegations from Bolivia, Latvia, Republic of Georgia, and Curacao from July 21-24, 2015 as part of the Special Olympics World Games Host Town program, according to a city press release issued Tuesday.

“Claremont is thrilled to be a Host Town for the 2015 World Games. This is an opportunity of a lifetime for our community to be a part of the largest international athletic event this year. We can’t wait to welcome our delegations and show them what makes Claremont so special,” said Mayor Joe Lyons.

Athletic delegations will be arriving to Claremont in the days prior to the World Games to get acclimated to the time zone, enjoy activities that the city has to offer, train and prepare to compete at the World Games beginning July 25, 2015.

The Host Town program in Claremont is a collaboration between the city, Pomona College, Claremont McKenna College, and Scripps College, providing the delegations with food, housing, and entertainment during their stay in the City of Trees.

“The Host Town program gives each community an opportunity to showcase to the world what makes them special, but more importantly, to provide citizens with a better understanding of intellectual disabilities that will lead to acceptance and inclusion for all,” said Patrick McClenahan, President and CEO of LA2015. “Long after the World Games are over, the memories of those three days spent at Host Town will leave a lasting legacy for Special Olympics Southern California and everyone who was touched by our athletes. We are thankful to all participating Host Towns and their tireless volunteers for opening their doors – and their hearts – to our athletes and coaches.”
