Village home burglary suspect arrested with help of watchful neighbors

Claremont police arrested 29-year-old Ryan Coon, a transient who recently came to California from Nevada, on Saturday, April 18 after Mr. Coon burglarized a home on the 300 block of West Harrison Drive.

At about 7:14 p.m., a witness saw a residential burglary in progress and then chased the suspect. Nearby residents who witnessed the chase called 9-1-1. Mr. Coon was seen running through rear yards in the 400 block of West Sixth Street.

Claremont police set up a perimeter and a K-9 unit from the Pomona Police Department as well as a helicopter from the Ontario Police Department arrived to assist. After an approximate 45-minute search, Mr. Coon was located hiding beneath a house in the 400 block of West Sixth Street and was arrested without incident.

Over $9,700 in stolen property was recovered that was taken in the burglary. Mr. Coon is being held at the Claremont jail in lieu of $50,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned in Pomona court on Tuesday, April 21.

Claremont Police Department officials say that the suspect was “captured due to the great observations and quick phone calls of Claremont residents.”
