25-acre brush fire in Mt. Baldy contained

A 25-acre brush fire ignited at around 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August11 near Mt. Baldy and Shinn Roads about a quarter-mile up the mountain, according to the US Forest Service. As of 9 a.m. today, Wednesday, August 12, the Forest Service said it’s 90 percent contained.

The Claremont Police Department responded to the call just after 10 p.m on Tuesday night, according to Lt. Lori Davenport of the Claremont Police Department. The US Forest Service crews with assistance from the LA County Fire Department were already on scene and did not request additional assistance from the police department.

According to CalTrans, Mt. Baldy Road at Mountain Avenue and Shinn Road is currently closed, pending clearance from the fire department officials who are checking the area for hot spots. Roads should be reopened by 10 a.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
