Purse snatcher arrested after foot chase

Claremont police arrested a man on Friday for allegedly stealing jewelry and attempting to snatch a woman’s purse.

The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Carlos Aguilar of Pomona, entered a Chico’s on the 100 block of North Indian Hill Boulevard around 8:04 p.m. and made off with several pieces of jewelry, according to Lt. Aaron Fate of the Claremont Police Department.

After leaving Chico’s, Mr. Aguilar tried to grab a woman’s purse in front of a nearby business. After a brief struggle, Mr. Aguilar poured hot coffee on the woman, causing minor injuries.

Authorities apprehended Mr. Aguilar after a short foot chase and all of the stolen property was recovered, according to the CPD.

Mr. Aguilar was booked at the Claremont Police Department and was transferred to the Los Angeles County Jail, where he is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
