Two arrested at Vons for allegedly possessing a stolen vehicle

Claremont police arrested two people Tuesday afternoon in the Vons parking lot for possession of a stolen vehicle.

Michael Orozco, 25, from Pomona and Diane Martinez, 24, from Maywood were arrested at around 2:25 p.m. after police determined the car they were driving in had been reported stolen out of Pomona, according to Lt. Mike Ciszek of the Claremont Police Department.

With guns drawn, Claremont police took Mr. Orozco and Ms. Martinez into custody. Police also employed a K-9 unit to secure the vehicle.

The events unfolded as shoppers came and went, with a small crowd of curious onlookers gathering nearby.

Mr. Orozco was arrested for grand theft auto and possessing a stolen vehicle, and was immediately placed on a 10-day no-bail flash hold after a records check revealed he was on probation, according to Lt. CIszek. Ms. Martinez was arrested for possession of stolen property after she was found with the car owner’s sunglasses.

Both were both transported to CPD jail where they were booked.
