It was an unusual afternoon for Daniel Kentner as he came face-to-face with a big brown bear at his home in the Claraboya area. Here’s the encounter in his own words. “I had a visitor in my yard on Friday, April 22 around 2:26 p.m. The very large bear had apparently emerged from a neighbors swimming pool and walked into my yard soaking wet. This was on the northwest corner of Mountain Avenue and Valparaiso Drive. I called 911 and was told to stay inside. That was an easy order to comply with. It then climbed my back fence and up the hill behind my neighbor’s house. After that, it visited the backyards of my neighbors on the northwest side of Valparaiso before meandering back into the wilderness area. What a magnificent creature.”
