Burglars arrested for thefts at CMC dorms

Police arrested two people on suspicion of burglary Sunday morning after catching them taking items from a Claremont McKenna College dorm room.

Robert Gaines, 56, and Rachel Gaines, 51, both of Inglewood, were taken into custody on the 400 block of East Ninth Street at approximately 3:22 a.m., according to a release from Lt. Eric Huizar of the Claremont Police Department.

Police arrived on the scene to assist Campus Safety with one of the suspects, who was seen taking items from a dorm room and loading them into a purple Ford Ranger.

The Ranger was reportedly full of stolen property, including mini refrigerators, an air conditioner, bags of bedding and clothing.

Mr. and Ms. Gaines were arrested for burglary and transported to Claremont Police Department jail, where they were being held on $50,000 bail, according to the release. Their arraignment is scheduled for May 17 at Pomona Superior Court.
