City to explore options with Towne Avenue housing development

The Claremont City Council held a special closed session on Tuesday, June 28 to look at possible litigation against William Lyon Homes over the abandoned development on the corner of Towne Avenue and Base Line Road.

The lot has sat empty since the early part of 2016. According to an earlier COURIER article, Director of Community Services Brian Desatnik said the developers indicated they were going to put the development on hold for 60 days to “reassess the market.”

Mr. Pedroza said that with the target date past, the city is exploring its options.

“We authorized the city manager to meet with special counsel to schedule options to remedy the nuisance and complaints at the Lyon Homes project on Base Line,” Mr. Pedroza said.

Jon W. Robertson, the president of William Lyon’s Southern California division, declined to comment on the issue.
