Bus crash takes out power pole on Indian Hill

A Foothill Transit bus making a right turn from Foothill Boulevard onto southbound Indian Hill Boulevard crashed into a tree and a power pole Friday afternoon. The driver apparently clipped the curb, which sent the bus toward oncoming traffic, and in an attempt to avoid a collision, the driver overcorrected sending it back into the curb, colliding with a sign, a tree and cutting the power pole in two.

The driver was transported to the hospital with minor injuries and a couple of passengers also complained of pain, according to Claremont police.

The wreck occurred at about 5:30 p.m. and the police received several 9-1-1 calls.

The smashed power pole resulted in a widespread power outage that affected neighborhoods both north and south of the accident scene. Candlelight Pavilion, which had a show scheduled for 7:30 p.m., had to cancel and The DoubleTree Hotel was making arrangements to relocate over 400 guests.

Traffic signals were not working on Indian hill Boulevard, north of the accident but remarkably the corner where the accident occurred the signal was still working.

Within an hour two Southern California Edison trucks were on scene however power was expected to be out for at least two hours.
