One man is dead following a plane crash in the hills above San Antonio Heights early Tuesday morning.

The plane, a Piper Cherokee, went missing around 4:52 a.m., according to spokesperson Jodi Miller of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. The wreckage was eventually located at 6:15 a.m.

The pilot was identified on Wednesday as 66-year-old Stephen Lassetter of Upland, according to spokesperson Cindy Bachman of the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner.

The plane took off from Cable Airport and was en route to Riverside, Ms. Miller said.
