‘Funny in Farsi’: Funny in any language in the world

The On the Same Page committee of the Friends of the Claremont Library is sponsoring a community gathering to talk about the world of immigrant children. “They arrive in America, often facing a mystifying new language, wondrous new foods and a dizzying array of new traditions,” a press release stated. Author Firoozeh Dumas writes about such experiences in her book, Funny in Farsi.

Frans Vischer, a Disney animator and author, has been invited to share his story at a talk on Saturday, December 10 at 10 a.m. at the public library. Mr. Vischer resorted to drawing to communicate with schoolmates when he first arrived here from Holland at age 11.

Amada Irma Perez arrived in LA from Mexico, speaking no English will also speak at the event. Her experiences propelled her into a career as a bilingual educator, and she is also an author of children’s books.

Both speakers will have copies of their current books at this event.

The event is in the Claremont Library Meeting Room, 208 N. Harvard Ave.
