Janis Weinberger memorial service scheduled for April 2

Janis McMaken Weinberger, owner of the Claremont COURIER newspaper and longtime advocate for senior services in Claremont, died Thursday, February 2 at Pilgrim Place Health Services Center. She was 90 years old.

In addition to her work at the COURIER, Ms. Weinberger worked tirelessly with the Claremont Community Coordinating Council, the Claremont Community Senior Services and was a founding member of the Claremont Committee on Aging, serving as its first chairwoman in 1977.

In 2003, the city dedicated a 2,100-square-foot multi-use facility, the Janis McMaken Weinberger center, in her honor at the Joslyn Senior Center.

A community memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, April 2 at 1 p.m. at the Joslyn Center, 660 N. Mountain Ave., Claremont. A full account of Ms. Weinberger’s life will appear in a future edition of the COURIER.
