Four people were arrested by Claremont police on a number of charges, including identity theft, grand theft auto and stolen firearms, at the Knights Inn in Claremont on Saturday, April 29.

Claremont Police Department officers witnessed a male push a female outside of the Knights Inn, located at 721 S. Indian Hill Blvd. As police approached the couple, they ran. Police saw the man throw a loaded handgun with a high-capacity magazine on the ground. He was caught by police and it was later determined that the handgun had been stolen during a residential burglary in Rancho Cucamonga, according to police.

The female ran into a hotel room that the male suspect had rented by impersonating someone else using a stolen driver’s license. When officers attempted to contact the woman in the room, four people ran out the rear sliding glass door. Police say that three of the suspects were detained but, after and extensive search of the area, one person wasn’t located.

Once inside the hotel room, Claremont police found methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, stolen credit cards, driver’s licenses, Social Security cards, mail, W-2 tax forms and other personal identifying information belonging to hundreds of people. An embosser and printer as well as other materials commonly used to commit identity theft were also in the room. In addition, a stolen vehicle parked at the hotel was connected to one of the subjects.

Raymond Valles, 37, of West Covina was arrested for a no bail probation violation, possession of a high-capacity magazine, identify theft, possession of stolen property, resisting arrest and for being a felon in possession of a stolen firearm.

Anita Nunez, 41, from El Monte was arrested for grand theft auto, identity theft and resisting arrest. Inez Diaz, 37, from El Monte was arrested for identity theft, resisting arrest and a warrant. Michael Salas, 33, from West Covina was arrested for identity theft.

Mr. Valles, Mr. Salas and Ms. Nunez are on post-release community supervision (PRCS), police say. Ms. Diaz was on probation for grand theft. PRCS allows for certain offenders to be released from incarceration and monitored by probation. It is part of Assembly Bill 109 and was passed into law by voters in October 2011.

According to Claremont PD, all four suspects were scheduled to appear in Pomona Superior Court on Tuesday morning.
