Pursuit suspect arrested after crashing into garage door
A Pomona man was placed behind bars the morning after fleeing the scene of a crash following a pursuit.
Manuel Castellanos III, 44, was allegedly behind the wheel of a stolen silver 2016 Dodge Dart that was found by police in the area of Indian Hill Boulevard and Seventh Street around 10:30 p.m. on Monday, May 22, the Claremont Police Department said in a release. Mr. Castellanos fled south on Indian Hill at a high rate of speed when officers tried to stop the car, police said, and officers lost him in the area of Bonita Avenue and Indian Hill Boulevard.
A short time later, however, multiple 911 calls reported the car crashing into a garage door on the 700 block of west First Street and the driver fleeing on foot. Officers searched the area, but were unable to find Mr. Castellanos.
The next morning, around 7:21 a.m., police went to the 800 block of west Tenth Street regarding a suspicious person walking up to houses and looking into backyards, police said. The description of the suspect matched Mr. Castellanos, and police began searching the area.
Officers found Mr. Castellanos leaving a garage on the 100 block of Vanderbilt Drive while the homeowner was yelling at him to get out, police said.
Mr. Castellanos was arrested on charges of auto heft, burglary, theft, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance, trespassing and a parole violation. He is being held without bail and is expected to appear at Pomona Superior Court on May 25.
