Two people arrested following car burglary in Claraboya

Two people were arrested on Sunday afternoon on suspicion of burglarizing a car in Claraboya.

Nathan Slayton, 29 from Glendora, and Tataya Stoneking, 36 from Pomona, were arrested about three hours after the burglary was reported, Lt. Karlan Bennett of the Claremont Police Department said in a release.

Police responded to the area of Mountain Avenue and Via Santa Catarina around 1:35 p.m. regarding a vehicle burglary that occurred while the victim was walking in the Wilderness Park. The suspects smashed the rear window of the car and stole the victim’s purse and iPhone, police said.

Surveillance footage from the scene captured the burglary, as well as the suspect entering an awaiting 2002 Chevy Trailblazer that fled south on Mountain Avenue.

Officers later located the vehicle at 4:47 p.m. on Arrow Highway east of College Avenue. A traffic stop was conducted, and Mr. Slayton, the driver, and Ms. Stoneking, a passenger, were detained.

During a search, officers recovered the stolen goods, as well as meth pipe belonging to Mr. Slayton, police said.

Mr. Slayton was arrested for burglary, receiving stolen property and possession of the meth pipe, and Ms. Stoneking was arrested for burglary and receiving stolen property.

Both were booked at the Claremont Police Department jail, where they were held in lieu of $200,000 bail. They are expected to appear at Pomona Superior Court on June 6.
