Claremont residential burglary suspects arrested

On Thursday, August 24 at 5:40 p.m., a resident in the 1600 block of N. Mills Avenue in Claremont arrived home to her residence being burglarized by a male and female suspect, later identified as Erika Ordonez, 37, of Montclair and Gabriel Campos, 21, of Montclair.

After stealing an unknown amount of jewelry, the suspects fled south on Mills Avenue and then east on Foothill Boulevard in a black Chevrolet Cruze. This home was also burglarized on Wednesday.

Through investigation, officers and detectives from the Claremont Police Department identified the vehicle and got a license plate number. Potential suspects were also identified along with confirming they lived in the city of Montclair.

On Friday, August 25, police conducted surveillance at the suspect’s home and the male suspect was seen driving away in the Chevy Cruze. Officers and detectives followed the vehicle and the suspect fled on foot, leading officers on a foot chase through the surrounding neighborhood. Claremont police officers and detectives, along with K-9 Luther, as well officers from the Montclair Police Department and a helicopter from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the operation.

During the search for the suspect, he stole a bicycle from an elderly man and tried to escape out of the perimeter, however, officers immediately recognized him and gave chase. Once again, he led officers on a foot chase. He was later found hiding in a covered jacuzzi in the backyard of a home in the 10000 block of Vernon Avenue in Montclair. Once the male suspect was detained, CPD officers went back to the suspect’s residence and detained the female suspect. The victim identified both suspects and they were arrested for the residential burglary on Mills Avenue in Claremont.

Both suspects are being held at the Claremont Police Department jail in lieu of $50,000 and $70,000 bail. Their scheduled arraignment date is set for Tuesday August 29 at 8:30 a.m. in Pomona Superior Court.

The suspects were described as a male Hispanic, with short brown hair, light skin, thin and wearing a black shirt at the time of the burglary. The second suspect was described as a female Hispanic in her late-20s or early-30s, with shoulder length curly brown hair and wearing a white shirt.
