Safe ways to help victims of Hurricane Harvey

In the coming days, weeks and months, Hurricane Harvey victims will need help. The Claremont Police Department encourages people to help out victims in need. Unfortunately, there are unscrupulous people that will take advantage of situations, such as this tragedy. The police department emphasizes that it is important to thoroughly research any group that you donate to.

The following groups are deemed safe to donate to by the Claremont PD:

The American Red Cross is asking that those who wish to donate money use their website at redcross.org or text the word HARVEY to 90999 to donate $10. Volunteers are being sought, and that information is also available on the Red Cross’ volunteer website at redcross.org/volunteer. Blood donations are also needed. You can find information regarding blood drives at the Red Cross’ blood drive site at redcross.org/give-blood.

The Salvation Army is also accepting money, donations and seeking volunteers. Information can be found at the organization’s disaster website at disaster.salvationarmyusa.org.

The Austin Disaster Relief Network has already received one of the larges responses in its history. The group is also seeking funds to help provide support to storm survivors. For a tax-deductible gift donation, go to adrn.org/give.
