Lending helping hands for an independent life

When the staff and volunteers from the Service Center for Independent Life (SCIL) receives a tip to help a Claremont resident, it’s not long before they jump into action. Such was the case for longtime Claremonter Chuck Farritor, below, who at 93 still lives alone, but his poor eyesight keeps him from doing certain physical activities. After recently losing his wife Muriel to cancer, the timing could not be better for the folks at SCIL to get to work. Before Mr. Farritor could say thank you, a team was cleaning up the landscaping at his home giving it a fresh, clean look. Mr. Farritor was not only surprised with all the help, he was immensely grateful. Another job well done! For more information about how SCIL can help, call (909) 621-6722.
