Man dies hiking Sycamore Canyon trail

An unidentified man died this morning while hiking Sycamore Canyon trail, according to LA County Fire Department Capt. David Broadwell.

Authorities were called around 7:30 a.m. after the man, whose age and name is not yet known, suffered a cardiac arrest while hiking the trail, Capt. Broadwell said.

An off-duty nurse was at the scene performing CPR on the man for about 20 minutes, but he was declared dead at the scene when air support arrived, Capt. Broadwell said. His body was airlifted to La Puerta Sports Park to wait for a coroner.

The entrance to Sycamore Canyon Park—a 144-acre natural area located north of the Thompson Creek Trail—is east of Higginbotham Park. Sycamore Canyon trail is a rugged, single-track hiking path that connects to the Wilderness Park loop.

More information will be posted as soon as it becomes available.
