Upland man identified as hiker who died in Sycamore Canyon

The hiker who died in Sycamore Canyon on Friday has been identified as an Upland man.

Larry Sidders, 64, died of “sudden cardiac death” about a mile and half north of the 2500 block of Indian Hill Boulevard, according to Ed Winter of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office. Mr. Sidders had been hiking in the area around 7:30 a.m. Friday morning.

Multiple residents witnessed helicopters hovering around the hills above Claremont Friday morning as first responders arrived to the scene. Mr. Sidders was declared dead at the scene, and his body was airlifted to La Puerta Sports Park to wait for a coroner, according to LA County Fire Department Captain David Broadwell.

An off-duty nurse at the scene performed CPR on Mr. Sidders for about 20 minutes before responders arrived, Captain Broadwell said.

Mr. Sidders’ death has been ruled natural, Mr. Winter said.
