Claremont Rotary pledges $10,000 towards Joslyn patio project

The Claremont Senior Program is seeking donations for a patio project at the Joslyn Center, and the Rotary Club of Claremont jump-started the pledges by contributing $10,000. All donations will play a vital role in the development and installation of these improvements. Still, a large portion remains unfunded, and the city is reaching out to the community for help.

The Friends of the Claremont Senior Foundation and the city’s Committee on Aging are raising $50,000 to transform an unused area of the senior center to a space used for social gatherings, an outdoor classroom and casual enjoyment. The space will have shade, furniture, landscaping and string lighting for evening activities, the city said.

Some of these amenities will also be added to the Blaisdell Community Center.

Matching funds of $25,000 have already been pledged for the campaign, according to the city, and Claremont is also replacing the Joslyn Center patio pergola in anticipation for the project. The Friends of the Claremont Senior Foundation is asking for tax-deductible donations to support the patio expansion project. Contributions can be sent to the Claremont Senior Foundation, Inc. 660 N. Mountain Ave., Claremont CA 91711.
