Wilderness Park closed until further notice due to red flag conditions

The city has closed the Claremont Hills Wilderness Park until further notice, due to a continued red flag warning.

Sunday’s announcement from the city follows a number of park closure extensions that lasted all last week.

The red flag warning is up until at least Monday evening, due to gusty winds and relatively low humidity, according to the National Weather Service. The NWS is expecting gusts from 30 to 40 miles per hour, with minimum humidity from three to 10 percent until mid-week.

“As a result, critical red flag conditions will persist over most of Los Angeles and Ventura counties through Monday with a chance for locally critical conditions continuing into Tuesday, especially in the valleys and mountains,” the NWS stated in a release.

The Wilderness Park was closed all last week due to an increased fire danger, as other parts of southern California suffered through devastating wildfires.
