Police arrest Claremont man for series of bicycle thefts in Village

Claremont police arrested Scott Scholl, 53, of Claremont for a series of bicycles thefts that have recently taken place in the Claremont Village.

After an increase in bicycle thefts in the Village, the Claremont Police Department installed surveillance cameras at locations downtown. On December 8 at about 10:56 p.m., the Claremont Police Department responded to 250 W. First St., regarding a male who was seen stripping off various pieces of componentry from a bicycle locked to a bike rack.

Officers searched the area for the suspect, but were unable to find him. The officers met with witnesses and reviewed video that captured the crime. Police estimate the value of the bicycle was over $2,000.

The Claremont Police Department Detective Bureau began an investigation and tracked down the stolen bicycle parts to a residence located in the 100 block of south Indian Hill Boulevard.

Detectives retrieved the stolen bicycle bikes parts at Mr. Scholl’s residence, where he was arrested for theft and possession of stolen property.

Police later discovered that Mr. Scholl recently moved to Claremont and has an extensive criminal history. He was transported to the Claremont Police Department jail, where he was booked and later released on a written promise to appear in court.

Anyone with information regarding bicycle thefts in the area should call the Claremont Police Department (909) 399-5411.
