Brush fire training exercise at the Wilderness Park through Wednesday

The Claremont Police Department, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), and the Claremont Park Rangers will be participating in a joint brush fire response training exercise with the Los Angeles County Fire Department Monday, May 14 through Wednesday, May 16 in the Claremont Hills Wilderness Park.

Over the 3 days, fire engines and crews from surrounding communities will practice cutting fire lines in the hillside, placing hoses and putting water on simulated fires. Air units from the Los Angeles County Fire Department will also participate.

Claremont police, CERT volunteers and park rangers will take an active role during the 3-day exercise, which aims to prepare agencies involved to work cooperatively when fighting brush fires. Park Rangers and CERT members will assist with keeping pedestrian traffic out of the Wilderness Park area all 3 days.

The Wilderness Park will close Sunday, May 13 at dusk and will reopen to pedestrians on Wednesday, May 16 at 3 p.m.
