Claremont police arrest Ontario murder suspect

Claremont police arrested an Ontario man who was wanted for murder Wednesday.

Officers apprehended 23-year-old Jonathan Rodriguez around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday on Carnegie Avenue, just south of Bonita Avenue, according to Sgt. David DeMetz of the Claremont Police Department.

Mr. Rodriguez is suspected of stabbing 25-year-old Bernardo Vasquez of Rialto at a home on the 900 block of Deodar Street in Ontario, according to a release from the Ontario Police Department.

Police were called to the home just before 6 p.m. on Wednesday and found Mr. Vasquez suffering from multiple stab wounds, police said. He was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Witnesses at the scene identified Mr. Rodriguez as a family member who had fled before officers arrived.

Claremont officers later found Mr. Rodriguez during a call for a suspicious subject, and he told police he was involved in an incident in Ontario, police said. Claremont officers contacted Ontario police and he was taken into custody.

Mr. Rodriguez is being held without bail on murder charges at West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.
