Volleyball gets big win to capture league title, see roundup
The boys varsity volleyball team (15-10, 6-2 league) continued its winning ways, hosting Diamond Bar on Tuesday and winning in four sets, 25-22, 25-18, 22-25 and 25-14. The Pack celebrated not only senior night, but also enjoyed capturing the title of league champions.
Track and field
The JV track team won both the boys and girls divisions at the Palomares League Finals, but both varsity teams failed to claim the league championship. The JV boys scored 94 points and the girls had 119 to edge Bonita, Ayala, Diamond Bar, Glendora and South Hills.
Despite strong performances in the middle and long distance races for both genders, the varsity boys finished second to Ayala 147-91, while the girls were third, after Ayala and Bonita.
Claremont senior Daniel Scheider was the league champion in the 800-meter race, clocking in at 1:57.76. Senior Alyssa Cantrell was also a winner, running 47.32 to claim the title in the 300-meter hurdles.
In the field, senior Abby Holt reached nine-feet, six-inches to claim the pole vault title.
Baseball
The varsity baseball team (10-14, 3-9 league) was steamrolled by Ayala, 6-0, in an away game Tuesday. The Bulldogs put up four runs at the bottom of the third inning and two more in the fourth, and the Wolfpack was unable to respond. CHS will get a chance for revenge Thursday when it hosts Ayala at home.
Softball
The struggling varsity softball team (7-14-1, 2-10 league) fell 9-4 to the South Hills Huskies in West Covina Tuesday, and will take on Bonita Thursday.
Swim
The Palomares League boys and girls varsity swim prelims will continue Thursday at Diamond Bar.
