Man arrested for attempted murder, claimed he was “grim reaper”
A Pomona man who reportedly claimed he was the grim reaper was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
Dion Knight, 21, was arrested after a passing Claremont police officer observed him attacking a woman at a bus stop on Indian Hill Boulevard and Oak Park Drive on Sunday morning just before 5 a.m., according to a release from the Claremont Police Department.
The officer saw the woman’s face was bloody and swollen, and requested paramedics to respond to her. Additional Claremont officers also responded to search for Mr. Knight, who fled from the scene by jumping over a locked gate behind Ability First when the first officer arrived, police said.
The victim, a transient, told police that she was sitting on the bus bench when Mr. Knight approached her and began touching her, police said. Mr. Knight allegedly hit her in the face repeatedly, knocking her to the ground and strangling her while claiming he was the “grim reaper” and that he was going to kill her, police said.
Mr. Knight was located and detained, and was book on suspicion of attempted murder. He is being held at the Los Angeles County Inmate Reception Center in lieu of $2 million bail.
